San Antonio, May 20, 2022 (Issuewire.com) – Hyperion Biotechnology, Inc. (Hyperion) is a Legionella Water Testing laboratory delivering comprehensive and affordable water collection and analysis services to help healthcare facilities confirm the safety of their water system. The Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ) is a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved accreditation provider. CIHQ focuses on helping hospitals improve the quality of patient care by providing the tools and support needed in a collegial, respectful, educational, and cost-effective manner.

With sampling guidance and testing services, Hyperion supports customers in meeting CMS requirements to follow plans to reduce the risk of Legionella spread to prevent a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak. When Legionella bacteria become aerosolized through water droplets or mist spread from a facility’s water system, it can be dangerous to people who breathe it in. Legionella can cause Legionnaires’ disease, a type of pneumonia with the potential to cause serious illness in vulnerable populations.

“CIHQ’s commitment to helping healthcare facilities with accreditation and compliance aligns with values we follow in supporting our customers,” said Janel Callan, Legionella Services Specialist at Hyperion. “We appreciate their ability to provide resources and guidance, including on the development of water management plans, to healthcare facilities so the facilities can meet safety and accreditation compliance requirements. This partnership benefits CIHQ member organizations with additional resources to monitor building water safety.”

More on Spindigit:

When a water management program includes regular environmental sampling and testing, it helps prevent unchecked growth and spread of Legionella through early detection. Healthcare facilities can reduce the risk of Legionnaires’ disease by ensuring the building’s water system (including a cooling tower) does not expose patients to Legionella bacteria. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), routine and non-routine testing may be useful for establishing a baseline measurement and for validating a water management plan.
