New York City, May 3, 2022 (Issuewire.com) – Dr. Paniagua is a pioneer in his field and performed the first retrograde heart valve in the world.  In 2003 he implanted the heart valve in a retrograde fashion and in 2012 he was the first to implant a percutaneous dry valve in the world.

A determined cardiologist, Dr. Paniagua is affiliated with Texas Heart Institute and the Houston Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He specializes in coronary stents, structural heart disease, percutaneous heart valves, and hemodynamics.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Paniagua earned his medical degree from the University of Costa Rica in 1986. He completed his advanced training at the National Cardiovascular Center in Osaka, Japan in 1990, before relocating to the United States where he completed his residency in cardiovascular disease at the Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida in 1996, and his fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Baylor College of Medicine in 2000. He did advanced studios of clinical effectiveness in the math and science program at the Harbor School of Public Health.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

With a passion for teaching, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the Baylor College of Medicine. He has published over 23 publications in his field.
