A nationwide vaccination drive has been launched in the United States of America on Monday. The mass vaccination process is meant to put an end to the biggest COVID-18 outbreak in the world that is being faced by the country. The death toll in the country has already suppressed 300,000 and is rising at an alarming rate.
The highly anticipated process of mass vaccination began in the country at a time when many European countries reinforced new lockdowns as they are experiencing a second wave of infectious spread. This indicates that the idea of a Coronavirus pandemic free world is still a long way to go.
The US has administrated the use of the vaccine made by Pfizer BioTech a few days ago. The first person to get the shot of the vaccine was a nurse from New York named Sandra Lindsay. The vaccination was administrated live on television. This comes after six days Britain launched the West’s vaccine campaign against Coronavirus.
Lindsay is a critical care nurse at the Long Island Jewish Medical center. She described her experience at getting the vaccine as not feeling ‘any different from taking any other vaccine.’ She also requested all Americans to do their part in the battle against the pandemic by getting vaccinated.
She said, ‘I hope this marks the beginning of the end of the very painful time in our history.’
The vaccine has become the hope for humanity in the darkest of time when all the countries in the world, especially the US is suffering from high sure of the infection as well as people’s doubt about vaccination and disregard of the safety rules.
On the same day, while the US gets its vaccination drive started, Britain announces the discovery of a new and more infectious strain of the virus. As the Netherlands prepares for its strictest lockdown Britain and Turkey announce a four-day lockdown over the New Year holidays.
As per the Johns Hopkins University tally, the US has the highest number of reported cases with 16.3 million and also the highest death toll in the world crossing 300,000 deaths a few hours after the vaccination started.
President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday, ‘First Vaccine Administered. Congratulations USA! Congratulations WORLD.’ President-elect Joe Biden also tweeted, ‘Stay hopeful – brighter days ahead.’
Apart from New York, the vaccination was also administrated in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Canada also witnessed its first vaccination process that was given to a caregiver in Montreal.
America prepares for the mass vaccination process by rolling out delivery trucks equipped with refrigeration kits. The first phase of the vaccination drive would be to distribute the newly approved Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine to the American citizens who are in danger in a public-private plan.
The government employed courier services like FedEx and UPS to ship the vaccine by deploying fleets of trucks and planes to the health care workers and nursing-home residents in all 50 states.
