It has been announced by Cricket Australia that they are still planning to host the opening test match of the series in Adelaide against India in the coming month even though the players are moved out of South Australia in the early hours on Tuesday as there has been a cluster of cases of new coronavirus in the state.
Social distancing restrictions are reimposed by South Australia on Sunday after 21 new cases have been detected of the virus as most of them are acquired locally in the city of Adelaide.
The neighboring states have already started to close with South Australia in an attempt to contain the dreaded outbreak. The international players have been shifted by Cricket Australia from their one-day and Twenty20 squads north to Sydney.
The Indian squad is in Sydney and they are already in quarantine as they prepare for the six limited-overs ODI matches against Australia in November and December. The ODI’s are followed by a four-match test series that is scheduled to begin on December 17 at Adelaide Oval.
In a statement, it has been said by Cricket Australia that it has remained committed to playing the first test st the ground only.
Nick Hockley, the interim chief executive has said that a pro-active approach is taken by CA and several people have been mobilized across the country in the last one day in an attempt to shore up the international and domestic schedule for the men’s.
He further added that CA is going to continue to monitor the entire situation in South Australia and all the resulting restrictions around the border in the country.
Furthermore, he also added that the CA will remain as ever and they will continue to remain agile and will continue to address the challenges that have already been presented by the pandemic. They also stressed the fact that they are going to remain more and more confident than ever before for hosting a successful and safe summer across all the formats.
The other South-Australia based players and the Adelaide Strikers are already preparing for the very famous Big Bash League and they also have been moved out of the state to the training camps on the coast of New South Wales just ahead of the start of the Twenty20 league as the domestic league is slated to start on the 10th of December.
South Australia has been more successful than Victoria and New South Wales at containing the dreaded virus when they have first arrived in Australia and they have also hosted the first four rounds of the Sheffield Shield of the domestic competition from the middle of October.
India is slated to take on Australia in 3 ODIs, 3 T20s and 4 test matches in their tour down under. The first ODI will take place in Sydney in a day-night encounter as fans are eagerly waiting for the mouthwatering contest.
