(Spin Digit Editorial):- New York City, Oct 12, 2020 ( – Working in the field of nursing for over two decades, Edlina holds various titles, including advanced practice registered nurse, board-certified family nurse practitioner, and board-certified critical care registered nurse. At present, she serves in a dual clinical role as an advanced practice registered nurse supervisor & pain management nurse at Homestead Hospital in Florida.

Homestead Hospital has been a part of the south Miami-Dade community since 1940, when local physician James Archer Smith opened it as a 10-bed hospital east of Krome Avenue. Today, it is a modern, full-service 142-bed facility with a mission to provide care to patients whose socioeconomic issues ultimately affect their overall health.

Following the completion of her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Barry University, Edlina went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing degree (Family Nurse Practitioner Program) from NOVA University.

Honored with the ‘Critical Care Nurse of the Year’ Award, she is certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. A subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, it is a certification body for nursing board certification and the largest certification body for advanced practice registered nurses in the United States.

An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is a nurse who has obtained at least a master’s degree in nursing. APRNs may work across various healthcare settings, including hospitals, ambulatory clinics or long-term care facilities. They provide medical support and preventative care to patients, along with additional responsibilities of coordinating patient care and using specialized knowledge to manage complex patient conditions. APRNs can diagnose and treat as well as order and interpret tests and prescribe medications.

A Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) is an advanced practice registered nurse who holds board certification and works autonomously or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, to deliver family-focused care. Given the rather broad nature of the “family” patient population focus, FNPs offer a wide range of healthcare services that revolve around the family unit; from health promotion and disease prevention to direct care and counseling across the lifespan.

A Board-Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN-BC) is a registered nurse who holds board certification and is trained to use their skills and experience to care for patients who are critically ill and at high risk for life-threatening health problems. They may also care for pre- and post-operative patients.

On a more personal note, Edlina was born in Nicaragua. Happily married, she enjoys being with family and close friends, entertaining, and gardening when she is not working.
