In a move that is not so surprising, it has been decided by BCCI to not allow National Cricket Academy (NCA) so that the contract of coaching staff members are not renewed who had already been hired in 2019 under the aegis of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administers (COA) for a one year contract.
The appointments of the batting, bowling, and fielding coaches as part of the NCA and those who came to work under Rahul Dravid, the NCA Director has already been done by the COA last year without any interview process. It is against the very protocol that had been mandated by the COA for all appointments including the support staff and the coach of Team India.
It is very much like the case of oranges and apples with the way the coaching staff was hired by NCA without any interviews last year. Everything has been disrupted by the pandemic right now and in the last five months, these coaches have nothing to do. So there is no point in renewing these contracts.
The BCCI is looking at the prospects of a complete overhaul of the structures and once cricket begins, do the things in the right way. It has been said by those who have been tracking developments.
Those coaching staffs, whose contracts are not renewed has got no idea whatsoever until in the last 48 hours they received calls from Dravid and Saba Karim, who is the outgoing general manager for operations for domestic cricket who have conveyed the same personally.
Rahul Dravid will continue to work with NCA along with Ashish Kaushik, who is the physiotherapist and has got permanent employment with the BCCI, and also Anand Date, the trainer. The others who are going to continue our Kshemal Waingankar, the operations manager, and Sujit Somsundar, the education head.
The coaches who will remain in their jobs are Paras Mhambrey, the under-19 coach, along with Abhay Sharma in wicket keeping and Narendra Hirwani in a spin as the terms of their contracts are pending.
Those coaches whose contracts have not been renewed are Subroto Banerjee, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Mansoor Ali Khan, Shib Sundar Das, T Dilip, Subhadeep Ghosh, Apurva Desai, Rajiv Dutta, Ramesh Powar, and Sitanshu Kotak among others. These individuals have been working with various age groups that include U-19 and also India A.
Over the last one year, the NCB has been in focus, after there is the exit of COA along with the former COO of the academy Tufan Ghosh who was an appointment of the COA. The BCCI and all its member associations feel that a complete overhaul is needed for BCCI and Dravid is the best individual who can drive it forward.
While going forward, the board wants to ensure that the right processes are followed.
It has left some of the senior cricketers amazed that mandatory advertisements are not listed out for specific roles.
